The Loopler Fuel Build: Support, Not an Engine

Keep the tank honest with Efficiency, Reserve Tank, and one fuel gate. Then let speed, ghosts, or score actually fill the bar.

Fuel Build

A Loopler fuel build is not a fourth engine. Fuel is a fail state, the same family as durability. Empty the tank and the run ends, usually after the car coasts, the durability percentage takes a hit, and overdrive is the only sprint left. This page is the support kit that keeps a speed build, a ghost build, or a score build alive through a 12-round contract and, if you want it, Infinity Mode. If the bottom kit tiles shout Fuel-Refuel louder than Boost, Ghost, or Score, you drafted a museum of tanks. That is how demo players thought boost-plus-refuel was the whole game. Steam 1.0 reworked that line on purpose. Treat the history as history.

The embedded stream is a demo-era boost-and-ghost break. Watch it for the fantasy of a tank that never dies while extra cars stampede the eight. Then ignore any number that disagrees with a live Steam tooltip. Boost-plus-refuel was OP in that footage. Launch spent the months to September 11, 2026 making it a support verb instead of a finish condition. Round 1 still often asks for about 200. The bar still climbs. The tank still kills you if you forget it.

Refuel on loop, on pass, and on empty tank

Fuel has three honest taps. Read the tooltip. Do not assume they stack into a second win condition.

On loop — Efficiency. Efficiency refuels 20% when you complete a circuit. That is the clean on-loop fuel. It scales with the same action a speed line already wants: finishing loops. Take it early, upgrade it, and stop panic-buying random refill charms once this card is in the tray. It is S support on a speed build and still A on ghost and score lines that complete circuits often. It is C only when Oil Leak has already smashed the efficiency stat this card spends. Families: card tier list.

On pass — fuel and refuel gates. A fuel gate ticks when the car, or a ghost, crosses it. Plant it second on a speed sentence after Boost, somewhere the live car cannot miss. On a ghost build, plant it where the swarm still visits after the spawn spike, because extra cars can slurp as well as score. On a score build, one fuel gate keeps the expensive passes happening. Two fuel gates and no engine is a dead run. Empty slots are legal. Slot theory lives on the gate tier list. Inspect Track before you drop; 1.0 highlights the gate you are holding and gives you a cancel button.

On empty tank — Reserve Tank. Reserve Tank refuels at 60% when the tank empties, and it ignores fuel efficiency. That last clause is the whole card. Efficiency as a garage stat decays the more you top up. Oil Leak punishes that decay specifically. Reserve Tank is the I-emptied-it-on-purpose insurance. Pair it with Efficiency so you empty less often, or lean on Reserve Tank when Crown-style layouts or Oil Leak nodes are ruining on-loop tops. It is not a license to skip fuel gates forever, and it does not repair durability.

Garage knobs that talk to this kit: Fuel Tank and Fuel Efficiency on the radar. Frozen Threshold is the floor the car refuses to drop below when you empty the gauge and start coasting. A Leaky Pump with no base benefit can still roll −2.5% fuel consumption; that is a fuel part even with an ugly name. Boost Cap is a speed knob that happens to drain the tank faster, which is why this support page exists. Full part routing: Loadout and meta. HUD language — the Fuel-Refuel chip, overdrive as a last sprint after durability dies — sits in How to Play.

Cars: blue-style extra starting durability buys time to find Efficiency or Reserve Tank before the percentage in the corner hits zero. Yellow-style gold equal to durability/10 on round complete funds the fuel gate you still have not planted. Neither identity is a fuel engine. Rankings: car tier list. Enable one real engine in loadout plus a fuel support and a gold support. Enabling every refill card rebuilds the demo museum.

Why boost-plus-refuel dominated the demo — and how 1.0 still needs a fuel line

Mheep said it in public. Boost-plus-refuel dominated the Next Fest demo so hard that other engines felt like jokes. Gold was too easy, so the shop became the only decision, and the shop kept selling the same two verbs. He spent the months to launch reworking gold income, first-round sameness, and that OP line. 1.0 still lets boost-first work. It stopped being the only sentence in the language. Ghosts and score are real finish conditions if you refuse to mix them. Fuel is how those finish conditions survive round 8.

What that means at the pit stop:

  1. Name a real engine first. Speed, ghost, or score. Fuel is support. The synergy planner ranks a refuel or fuel gate as “buy if the tank is scared,” not as identity. Keep that checklist next to Inspect Track.
  2. Buy Efficiency or Reserve Tank as the fuel card, not both plus a third refill. Overfuel Injector is A until the live rank-5 line says it is doing something your tank is not already doing. Skip packs that only offer another top-up while Boost, Ghost, or Score is still missing. Skip can cost 100. Pay it.
  3. Plant one fuel gate, not a fuel palace. Boost first on speed. Ghost first on swarms. Score on guaranteed traffic. Fuel is the second thought, never the first. Lucky and chain are finishers. Gold is a shop battery.
  4. Skip Oil Leak if this kit is holding the run up. Oil Leak is a node-map event that punishes refuel efficiency. Reserve Tank jumps up because it ignores that stat. Extra on-loop tops jump down. Routing: walkthrough and the tracks page. Crown (“fit for a monarch”) and some unnamed layouts starve the gauge. Infinity (“a loop that never quite ends”) and Hotdog are kinder until you add events. Five difficulties exist per track; Silver Loop is a difficulty name from demo-era unlocks, not a circuit. A fuel kit that clears an easy Infinity contract can still starve on a meaner step.

Steam’s Tank achievement family is the badge layer of this page. Forty-seven achievements shipped at 1.0; Tank is the confirmed fuel-named one. Do not invent the rest of that list here — the achievements page groups the public names. Play so the tank never empties in a way that kills durability, then mop the badge. Overdrive is not a fuel plan. Overdrive is a last sprint after the durability percentage is gone. If you are “winning” on overdrive because the tank coasted you into a break, you already failed the fuel line.

A finished fuel line is quiet. The Fuel-Refuel chip is healthy, not loud. Boost, Ghost, or Score is the loud one. The tank tops on loop, on a pass you planted, or at 60% when you empty it on purpose. That is the kit you take into How to Go Infinite, not a second fuel gate you bought just in case.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is a fuel build a fourth The Loopler engine?

No. Fuel is a fail state. Keep the tank alive so a speed, ghost, or score line can finish. If Fuel-Refuel is the loud kit tile, you drafted a museum.

Should I take Efficiency or Reserve Tank first?

Efficiency (20% on loop) if you are completing circuits and topping up. Reserve Tank (60% on empty, ignores fuel efficiency) if you empty the tank or Oil Leak is wrecking that stat. Many long runs want both.

Why was boost-plus-refuel so strong in the demo?

It was the OP line. Mheep reworked gold income and that combo for the September 11, 2026 launch. 1.0 still needs a fuel support card; it no longer wins by itself. See Launch Notes.

What does the Oil Leak event do to a fuel kit?

It punishes refuel efficiency. Skip the node if on-loop tops are holding the run up. Reserve Tank jumps in value because it ignores that stat. Routing is on the walkthrough.

Where do fuel gates sit in the sentence?

Second thought, not first. Boost, ghost, or score claims the opening slot. Use Inspect Track and the synergy planner so a second fuel gate does not steal the engine.
